Accelerated Reader/Lexile Information

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is used to measure comprehension of reading material. Incentives are provided every nine weeks for students who meet their AR goal. In order to attend the incentive event students must reach their point goal and have an 80% or above average for quizzes taken during the incentive period.

What is a Lexile?

Lexile matches a student’s reading ability with the difficulty of a book. The STAR Assessment is administered throughout the year to measure the student’s growth. The assessment shows the student’s Lexile Measure and a Lexile Range. This range represents the boundaries between the easiest kind of reading for the student and the hardest level at which he or she can read successfully. A student’s Lexile measure is a tool for teachers to use in targeting reading material for students.

Students should be reading at these Lexile Levels by the end of the school year
